Rod Stewart曾经是世界上最出色的摇滚歌手之一，同时也是最有才华的词曲作者之一，是美国乐坛六十年代中期的英国入侵浪潮之后的标志性人物之一，他的独特的嗓音也成为了那个时代标志性的特征之一，因而Rod Stewart在很长时间以来一直被人尊崇。他的音乐把乡村，民谣，布鲁斯，和摇滚乐等融合在一起的风格，不仅曾经使他成为了摇滚乐坛独挡一面的人物，而且由于他的成功还影响了许多代人的音乐思想，Bryan Adams，Michael Bolton，Steven Tyler(Aerosmith乐队主唱)，Paul Stanley(Kiss乐队主唱)等人都是他的追随者。但是在获得成功，并且年龄渐渐增大以后，他没有坚持自己的摇滚音乐风格，而越来越在流行音乐中随波逐流，以及在电影中肆意挥霍自己的时光，再加上肮脏的生活，尽管他仍然是一名出色的歌手，仍能在三十年后继续保持很高的威望和较高的唱片销量，但是这已经让他从一代摇滚音乐教父的神坛上衰落下去，而他的音乐事业也再没能够恢复当初的辉煌。 　　1945年1月10日，这个全名Roderick David Stewart的男孩出生在英国伦敦的一户苏格兰人家庭，他是父母五个孩子中最小的一个。小时候他的理想和众多的英国孩子一样——成为一名足球运动员，他开始在Brentford足球俱乐部做职业小球员，音乐只占他业余时间的一小部分。但是后来，这种情况被颠倒了过来。 　　60年代初，已经正式开始了自己音乐征途的Rod Stewart和许多其他音乐人一起参加了民谣歌手Wizz Jones的欧洲巡演，Rod Stewart在巡演中演唱以及演奏口琴。1963年回到英国以后，Rod Stewart加入了伯明翰一个R&B音乐组合Jimmy Powell & the Five Dimensions，继续担任主唱和口琴演奏，并且随队一起录制了一支单曲。在随队的英国巡演结束以后，Rod Stewart回到伦敦并且加入了一支名叫the Hoochie Coochie Men的布鲁斯乐队，这就是后来的Steampacket乐?..
